After the Shipman tragedy GPs need to take extra care to show verifiable compliance with the regulations concerning the personal administration of controlled drugs. Drug Tracker is a simple to use program that allows individual GPs to demonstrate auditable compliance with the law on their personal handling and administration of controlled and non-controlled drugs.
Drug Tracker can be used as a central practice resource or individually by the GP.

Use of the trackers will help gain points under: Organisational Indicators — ’Management 7’ and ‘Medicines 3’ - a total of 5 points

The record the GP creates is held in an encrypted database so demonstrating verifiable compliance with the law. The GP can record the use of Drug Tracker in their PDP to show evidence of an activity of clinical governance.
